There's a subtlety here. 1.4.8 is sufficient for general usage of Autoconf, as described in that commit, but may not be sufficient to *bootstrap* Autoconf itself. (I don't know of any concrete reason it *wouldn't* work, but I do know it hasn't been tested thoroughly.)
