Thanks. Eric, would you mind if I went ahead with this patch?
I'm fully aware that I have high review latency too, and am
responsible for some long-standing testsuite regressions in
Autoconf[1], but this patch feels like a no-brainer to me,
and it would be really nice to get it off the pending list
after four months.

[1] If they bother too much, one trivial improvement would be
to just remove the offending tests from the testsuite for now.
