Is :- portable now?

We still recommend against it in the manual.  But Solaris /bin/sh
supports it, and according to http://www.in-ulm.de/~mascheck/bourne/, it
was added in SysIII in 1981, while shell functions appeared in SVR2 in
1984, and shell functions with local $@ in SVR3 in 1986.  Since we
depend on the latter for most m4sh targest, should we start testing for
it in m4sh, and claiming that it is portable within configure scripts?

The only problematic platform seems to be Ultrix, but didn't the Ultrix shell even lack shell functions?
