But text files have a limited line length. So, I assume that diff
may break on files with very long lines on such platforms.

I don't understand what you mean exactly. The configure script is
generated by autoconf on a normal Linux-based desktop machine, from
which I do a "make dist". The Maemo machine itself doesn't run
autoconf, just the configure script from the distributed archive.
So, I suppose I should regenerate the archive using the git Autoconf
testsuite from my desktop machine, then test it on Maemo.
