Dunno. Some people use
make -s LIBTOOLFLAGS=--silent
to get as little output as possible now; they could add
CONFIGSTATUSFLAGS=-q too, to silence rechecks, too. FWIW, I usually
don't; I merely prefer Autoconf to be consistent.
