well, it was like this:  I looked quickly at the patch and wasn't
able to understand it, to see what happens when various special
characters are given to each of the changed macros.

Thus I thought it is non-trivial, and thus there is a space for an
oversight.  So I proposed to fix the reported bug (to accept the
patch from debian) and leave the rest after the releasse.

It was probably a mistake that I haven't tried harder to review the
patch, sorry.
