The right thing to do is to match \ only on hosts where \ is a
directory separator, and similarly for leading character followed by
":". Autoconf should not use DOS's file name rules on POSIX hosts,
since that results in incorrect behavior on POSIX hosts.
I realize that this would be some work, as the \ and : stuff is
currently scattered throughout the Autoconf source code. But the
current source code is plainly incorrect.
