As a matter of fact, I've always been in favor of having a `missing
which'.  That would simplify a lot of the current code, and most
probably improve our portability.  And if `missing which' is not OK,
we could create a confwhich that does the trick.  The code is becoming
a nightmare to maintain :(  The whole AC_(CHECK|PATH)_(PROG|TOOL)S?
needs a full rewrite :(
