Don't panic.  It conforms to all the rules if you accept the concept of
having changed the configure program names to differentiate between the
thousands of different configure scripts that are out there.

Give me real examples of configure scripts being installed for a
good reason, or programs actually parsing the output of
<package>/configure --version in a correct manner according to
the rules written in the GNU Standards.
