great work this neat little CD player! However I experienced some problems on a

The problem is, adcd would start correctly, no error, with either /dev/cdrom or
/dev/sr0 (see also below). No matter what I do, it does not start playing and
always reports that CD is stopped. open/close command does not work.

Here is what dmesg says:
[ 1.477952] sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 24x/24x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda
tray
[ 1.477964] cdrom: Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
[ 1.478784] sr 1:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0

I noticed that on my other machine, Fedora with Kernel 3.8.2 where adcd works there is an extra line saying "sr 1:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 5". Could this be the reason?

Most probably. IIRC, scsi cdroms need a sg device name to open the tray, etc.

Do you have any ideas what could be wrong?

I am not up to date on modern devices. The two machines on which I use adcd both have IDE drives (/dev/hdc).

Best regards,
Antonio.
