@CDH  I, too, forgot I was subscribed to this list, and that it existed at all.  LOL. 

@Devin  How do we get this statement updated? 

@CDH I recall your talk on accessibility at a recent Libreplanet; not sure it prompted much action, sad to say.  Some basics of the GNOME3 settings dialogue remain inaccessible, and there is much work in Libreoffice accessibility, to be done, to bring it up to the usefulness of MS Office and NVDA. 

@CDH  Some applications that use QT have become accessible, since that statement was written. 

I agree with Devin that Mate accessibility is quite good, with exception of the calendar panel widget on the panel.  The panels for XFCE and LXDE remain completely inaccessible.  Not sure about Razor QT, LXQT, or the Cinnamon desktop.  Chromium browser is becoming accessible; I've installed it onto one of my machines, and can use it with Orca 3.35.3; I think that's the latest one?  Finally, I have heard disturbing rumors regarding the developers of GTK 4 being hostile to accessibility inclusion; what do other list members know of this?  This prospect has prompted some friends who are blind to abandon the free software community. 

This is just quick musings; it's a bit of a mess.

I left that role years ago and, other than donating a few bucks to FSF each year, I haven’t been involved with them since.

I’m aware of some changes in accessibility in the free software community but I don’t know where to point you to get more information. I’m pretty sure the Orca mailing list is still going, you might find more useful information there.

It seems a bit dated, with mentions of Flash and Microsoft Silverlight, technologies which aren’t used anymore, with the most accessible Desktop environment now being Mate, instead of Gnome, Mate being now preferred by many blind Linux users, and KDE beginning work on accessibility.

Hope this helps a bit, and as a blind person who can’t code yet, but who can write rather well, knows a bit of HTML and uses Markdown daily, I’d love to help wherever I can.
