I noticed that even Acrobat has difficulty displaying this file without
stripes- it only works for particular resolutions. Also, the file
doesn't actually contain "real" gradients, only a number of shapes patched
together.
On the other hand, xpdf displays it without stripes, so this might be
fixable.
