I actually do do that, for some changes.  For instance, there is a
branch for the eliminiation of Numerix.  You should still be able to
cherry pick the later patches, but I agree that that is no fun.  The
problem here is really the way that SKS includes Numerix.  It would
probably be better if it were in a separate package.  Various fixes to
build problems were included for previous versions of Numerix, but I
needed to get a new version in order to get things built under 3.08.

I'll try and dig out those old numerix patches.  If anyone remembers
what they are, please email them to me.  I'll include them this time
as patches which get applied to the unpacked numerix, so they won't be
lost next time I need to upgrade Numerix.
