Speech Dispatcher project provides a high-level device independent layer for
access to speech synthesis through a simple, stable and well documented
interface.
It is architectured with a client/server approach: applications use the
libspeechd (LGPL) to connect to the server which supports the different speech
syntheses in different modules.
The server it written in C, the client part is available in C, common lisp,
guile, and python. It is mostly used on GNU/Linux, but can work on other
Unix-like platforms as well
