Hello everybody,
This is a beta release so that many people can test before this
becomes the next stable release. All changes are documented in the
changelog
<https://github.com/rdiff-backup/rdiff-backup/blob/v2.1.2b1/CHANGELOG.adoc#new-in-v2-1-2b1>. Check especially the changes (marked with /CHG/) which might impact your workflow. Since the last alpha:
* support for Python 3.6 has been dropped,
Dropping Python 3.6 means that it will no longer work in RHEL 8.
That's very bad news.
Few answers to this:
1. I know and I'm sorry but...
2. It doesn't mean that it doesn't work and I'm happy to make it work,
but by policy I don't want to support "officially" a version of Python
which isn't supported anymore (Python 3.6 _in RHEL 8_ is supported).
3. I actually planned to drop later 3.6 to make sure that I don't
introduce any incompatibility during the beta phase. This said, if I do,
don't hesitate to plug a bug and I'll fix it.
4. Python 3.10 was due to be supported for a long time and supporting
more than 4 versions of Python means longer time to test, etc...
Hope this is OK, but we can discuss,
Eric
