Follow-up Comment #3, bug #24451 (project rdiff-backup):
With the stable branch, it is just a warning -- you are guaranteed that
different 1.2.x versions will inter-operate. However, if you are expecting a
particular bug fix, it is nice to know when the version on the remote server
is out of date.
In the development branch, backwards compatibility was broken only sometimes
(to fix bugs in the network protocol), and even then, it might only affect
certain configurations. Hence, it is a warning, and not a fatal error.
Distributions which refuse to update their packages in a timely manner
shouldn't be packaging development releases. 1.1.5 is more than 2.5 years old
at this point (released Jan. 1, 2006)!
