Hmmm AFAIR I had fixed something along that line here:

... but for the last updates I used versions uploaded by Ketan that may not
have had these fixes.  TBH I didn't check the 'hg diff'-s all the way into the
152 BIST tests ...

I'll re-apply.

BTW my main aim for io-2.6.4 was to ensure that io still works with recent
dependencies and current and esp. dev Octave, the to/fromJSON functions just
fitted in nicely into this scheme.
A next io release isn't due very soon; I have several pending improvements
elsewhere in the package but they're not so urgent.
