Follow-up Comment #8:

This issue is unchanged in Octave 9.0.90.  Uncertain if the comment #6 details
indicate that this is a qt issue we are unlikely to fix, and if so should we
close this report? or should we leave this open in the hopes that it's
eventually addressable?
