Follow-up Comment #7:

Octave GUI's startup procedure has changed (a lot) since this big report. I
current stable (8.1) and default (9.0) versions, I can not reproduce this
issue and therefore close this bug as fixed. If this issue should show up
again, the report can be re-opened.
