Follow-up Comment #5, bug #55786 (project octave):

I am using ubuntu 16.04 but not 18.04 from hardware and software(Gromacs)
reasons.

Checking for xkbcommon >= 0.5.0... 
Trying source 0 (type pkgConfig) of library xkbcommon ...
+ pkg-config --exists --silence-errors xkbcommon '>=' 0.5.0
pkg-config did not find package.
  => source produced no result.
test config.qtbase_gui.libraries.xkbcommon FAILED

sudo apt install tells that
libxkbcommon-dev is already the newest version (0.5.0-1ubuntu2.1).

version is 0.5.0 for my system.

???
