Follow-up Comment #3, bug #55621 (project octave):

Which version of Octave was used for the test files?  Also, what version of
gnuplot since that is relevant as well.  Finally, this could also be a
rendering issue by your PDF viewer.  The file test2.pdf which is supposed to
have a problem displays fine for me with KDE's okular 4:17.12.3 on Kubuntu
18.04.
