I will shortly be updating gnulib on branch-1.4, branch-1.6, and master.
Now that gnulib (and also coreutils) no longer use TABs, I've decided to
adopt the same policy for m4 (git is pretty reasonable about ignoring
whitespace when blaming changes to files, so with the right options, you
don't get spurious blames to this commit).
