that's not a logical, but a symbol which is expected to be defined in
a header file - for the UCX configuration. Perhaps that is no longer
defined (my understanding is that everyone has UCX), or you have installed
another configuration such as MultiNet.
I built a copy of 2.8.3pre.1 in March, on an OpenVMS 6.2 (VAX) using UCX.
That works for me.
