I'm far less mystified -- it was a path problem. I was getting gcc 2.6.1,
which apparently has some inconsistencies with Solaris 2.6. Gcc 2.8.1
works better.
Now, though, I get the sticky reverse video when I suspend with ~Z.
And, why the literal "LYNXCOMPILEOPTS" in the info page?:
