I've recommended that folk read the termcap/terminfo information that
comes with GNU Emacs and related tools if they can't find the O'Reilly
book easily. It covers a lot of material, though I don't know how
current it is.
It seems like this would be a great topic for someone to write on and
include with the ncurses distribution.
