Yes, I know that. But since the G.729 plugin is already included in other GPL projects (e.g. CSipSimple based on PjSIP too for Android with a license disclaimer alert), why not include it also in Linphone?

Good question,
As far as I know, G729 source code used by Siphon is a port of the ITU reference implementation. From my understanding, this reference implementation is not free. Hereunder a citation from the REAME file I found from the ITU reference implementation: "The copy of the source C code, version 1.1, is given under Copyright of the authors, only for the purpose of establishing the specification of a codec.
All rights are reserved. Any other use of the material is prohibited."

I know that this topic was discussed last year, but I’d like to know if there are some news about the integration in mediastreamer2 of the G.729 plugin…nowadays it’s widely used. Siphon, another SIP GPL project for iPhone based on PjSIP, publishes all the G.729 source code and that could be the base to write a suitable plugin.
