No it wasn't, because libtool was generated in a two stage process
which
required
calling ./libtool --config directly.
I think you may be wrong. You can check the value of libtool variables
in configure for libtool > 1.4. In 1.3 and earlier there was a
separate
ltconfig script which was run, so those variables were not available.
With 1.4 libtool's checks became part of the configure script
itself, so
anything after AC_PROG_LIBTOOL can check the variables values.
ACK. I just remember rewriting the whole thing many years ago, and then
not putting out a release for roughly the same amount of time :-D
With 2.x, of course, it is preferred to use the vars directly,
creating
libtool just to check these is expensive and pointless.
