I can confirm that the tabbar code in the Emacs Wiki does the same here. It's obviously faulty – or ...
I use Emacs 22.2.1 on Linux Fedora 9 and tabbar 2.0.
... it's meant for tabbar version 1.3. I'd comment this on the Wiki page.
