What about saving position in register
`C-x r <SPC> R'
Save position of point in register R (`point-to-register').
`C-x r j R'
Jump to the position saved in register R (`jump-to-register').
Or jump to mark
C-u C-spc
Exchange point and mark
C-x C-x
And to truncate the mark ring
M-x marker-visit-truncate-mark-ring
