I rsh to a different machine where perl is installed in the /bin directory.
Here is what I got:

/bin/perl
[56] /bin/perl --version

This is perl, version 5.005_03 built for sun4-solaris

/home/rbrutovs/bin/htags
[58] perl /home/rbrutovs/bin/htags --version
4.0.1


Even though the perl path is shorter, the problem still exists. The work
around works very nicely, so it's no problem. Unfortunately, I still cannot
do a "man htags" so that I can setup the HTML browser to have the search
facility and the Definitions grouped under letter headings ([A][B][C],
etc.). Thanks for your time.

It's strange.  I don't know the reason why you cannot execute perl script
in your environment. If you find the reason, please let us know.
