Hello, John McDonnell here, with your latest issue of Really Useful Sites for
International Trade Professionals. If you're interested in finding a ready
market at the crossroads of Europe, check out our featured site about Turkey.
Next -- want to know the top 50 or 100 players in your industry? I have a site
that has the answer for you. Want to search the Web more efficiently? I found a
site that will help you do just that. Finally, I have a fun site that tells you
how people celebrate New Year's the world over (you may be suprised at what you
learn).
If you'd like more information about international trade, go to FITA's
International Trade/ Import-Export Portal <http://fita.org> ( http://fita.org
), an excellent source for trade leads, news, events, and a link library of
7,000 sites related to international trade.

TURKEY -- OUR FEATURED COUNTRY
http://www.loc.gov/rr/international/amed/turkey/turkey.html

Turkey is at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, and trade routes have passed
through it for millenia, so this is a place that's comfortable with the
international marketplace. Exports in 2002 were US $35 billion, while imports
were US $50 billion (with 45 percent coming from Russia, Germany, Italy, the
US, France, and the UK). Turkey is a promising market for any business looking
to increase its trade, and here's a good Web site to start your research.

The Library of Congress Turkey Portal (
<http://www.loc.gov/rr/international/amed/turkey/turkey.html> ) has a wealth of
resources on Turkey, including links to news, economic reports, Turkish
government Web sites, health information, travel tips, maps, weather reports,
business directories -- even an archive of Turkish recipes.

There are many more links to Turkey at the FITA site. Go to FITA's
International Trade Web Resources <http://fita.org/webindex/index.html> at
http://fita.org/webindex/index.html, click on Regional Resources and
Multi-Lateral Trading Areas in the left column, then scroll down to Europe and
click on Turkey in the drop-down box. Or simply type "Turkey" in the search box
at http://www.fita.org <http://fita.org/>. There are some great books on trade
with Turkey in the FITA Global Trade Bookstore
<http://fita.org/marketplace/eurobooks.php>, including Doing Business With
Turkey
 <http://fita.org/marketplace/product.php?asin=0749429542>.

SPECIAL ISSUES: GARY PRICE'S LIST OF LISTS
http://www.specialissues.com/lol/

It's the time of year when the media put out their lists of the Best and Worst
of the past 12 months. In the spirit of the season, I present this next site.
Special Issues: Gary Price's List of Lists <http://www.specialissues.com/lol/>
has links to lists from hundreds of magazines, many of them trade or industry
publications. For example, you'll find a link to the International Top 50 Meat
& Poultry Companies; the 2002 China Rich List; the Top 25 Global Automotive
Suppliers; and the Top 50 Global Private Companies, just to name a few.

SEARCH THE WEB MORE EFFICIENTLY
http://www.web-design-in-new-york.com/search-the-web.html

"I'll look it up online," is a phrase many people use today, and although you
can find lots of information online, it's not easy to sift through the millions
of Web sites out there and find the exact one you need. That's why a site like
Search The Web More Efficiently: Tips, Techniques, and Strategies
<http://www.web-design-in-new-york.com/search-the-web.html> is so valuable.
This site tells you in simple, clear language what you can do to have better
success with your searches by choosing the right search engine, picking the
right search terms, checking your results, evaluating sites for reliability,
and much more.

NEW YEAR'S CUSTOMS WORLDWIDE
http://www.topics-mag.com/internatl/holidays/new-years-page.htm

New Year's is a worldwide holiday, and there are many customs associated with
it. There was a time when my custom was to drink too much on New Year's Eve,
and nurse a hangover the next day. There are lots of customs less painful than
that, however, and you can learn about them at New Year's Customs Worldwide
<http://www.topics-mag.com/internatl/holidays/new-years-page.htm>. For example,
in Spain people eat 12 grapes at midnight, and in Venezuela they wear yellow
underwear. Visit this site and find out what people will be doing in two weeks
all over the world to ring in the New Year.
