Hey Uwe,
wow that's an inspiring story and a wonderful thank you !
It's one the things i like the most with (really) free software - being able to
just jump into development, and find support, and quickly getting to the point
(because users simply need you). Compare that to the Microsoft Certified
Engineer world, where you pay so much for incredible silly things just to get a
"licence". In this world, the process of gaining knowledge that you went
through, is of highly priced market value which can only be sold as a product,
and only to to certain elites. I don't think it's fun. But the point is, that
it's very dangerous for human society if there would be only licensed access to
programming knowledge.
Anyway, i'm checking out other file managers from time to time, and of course
some are not bad. However, those who are 'powerful' and superior in some
details, however, use to be overloaded with features. It's the set of features
which make gcmd still superior (including the easy custom script plugins, the
wonderful renaming tool, and my bookmark/mount icons which still are an ugly
hack, but they make things really fast and intuitive). I believe most of the
robust design is still original from Marcus Bjurman, who did a great job
finding the right mix. I whish we could give him a special thanks. Hope he'll
read it some day :)
As a user, who, out of private restrictive reasons, is not in the position to
learn programming, i still had lots of fun to discuss features and see how
things changed. If you stuck with such a project, for some years, it's like
seeing a plant grow and sometimes flower :)
In that picture, you are now the one pouring the essential water onto it, Uwe,
and for sure, without you it would have withered away.
Thank you so much for doing gcmd !
