And here's to King's health !

I tried to 'Open' that file (usually calls gedit), but, although the file 
itself was readable, i forgot to set the directory permissions of 740 to 
something more userfriendly.

So, according to the body-and-ass logic of ext3 permissions, the user (being in 
group 'staff') could read the directory list (r), but not jump into it (x) to 
do anything. So far, that's ok. But gcmd is a bit hysterical here: The window 
disappeares immediately (not even a shy 'so long' in the logs). 

This is only with 'Open' from context menu, not 'Open with' or renaming actions 
or any custom plugin. Internal viewer shows background void but that's not 
wrong somehow. So, what's happening in 'Open' ?

Can i hear 'Why should a user do anything in /root at all !' ? well let's say 
it's by tradition or better, don't ask.
