Hi!

Dear David Block,
I can give you some data regarding using FT on an embedded environment.
>From measurements I have done, on ARM based chip the time for loading a
Glyph is around 60 millisecond (for different European fonts).
The time for rendering a Glyph is around 05-1 millisecond.

As for memory requirements, the main consumer is OpenFace() which of course
change dramatically between fonts, and is a huge memory consumer for Asian
fonts.
with right configuration of FreeType (reducing render pool to around 5K,
getting rid of unneeded modules) you get run European based fonts (David for
instance - a font file around 45K) on 25-30K. On bigger European fonts like
Arial (which have much more tables in their Face) you get around 70K. Those
memory number are for the total (Face, Glyphslot and all memory needed
during loading and rendering).

Yours,
Nir
