The Gimp folks got it wrong. :-)
For ImageMagick we took the concept but adapted it to produce
Autoconf-compatible output. We have --cflags, --cppflags, --ldflags,
and --libs options which correspond with the meaning of
GNU-established standard environment variables. These output the same
values as used to build ImageMagick itself.
It is not wise to mix the output of --cflags and --libs.
