Perhaps you should contact large FTP internet sites to host mirrors
of freetype.
For Europe I suggest sunsite.org.uk, ftp.funet.fi, sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch
and ftp.inria.fr.

I will contact sunsite.rediris.es for Spain.
