I have an IDE Sony 500AX drive that i've been using with the
dvd+rw-tools. Works great. the dvd+rw tools are even suppose to burn
-r's now I think (experimentally). Check it out; it should work for you.
if you're going to try to make dvd-video's, make sure you get dvdauthor.
it includes the tools to create the VOB's etc.
