So cdrtools/dvdrtools does not support writing at
slower speeds?

Yes, but the full version costs $100, and even if it
cost $0 I would still not want to use software without
sourcecode.

These are the sort of discs I would be buying (I
cannot afford the 4x discs), so this does not give me
confidence.
I would rather get the Sony, if only dvdrtools
supported it.
