RE: [Dvdrtools-users] DVD-R writer speeds/reliabilities

I own a DVR-104 (A04...) and it burns just fine at 2X, using 2X media.

I'm not using this drive under Linux, but under Windows I've noticed that
NeroDVD thinks some of my DVD discs are 1X even though they are rated 2X (Primo
Prassi DVD burns 2X fine).

This implies the burning software has some role in determining burn speed.

On the other hand, I've seen firmware hacks for the drive that "disable the 1X
limit" for unrecognized DVD media (a risky thing to do IMO). So the firmware
must also have a role.

Make sure your media works as 2X. TDK 2X media is cheap and is a name brand. I
just use Princo "DVDPro" cheap stuff, and the (random) times I have burned with
Verify on I have noticed no failures.
