The DotGNU Informer Volume 1 Issue No 1

This publication provides summaries of #dotgnu irc discussions;
the current issue covers the logs for Jan 3, Jan 4, and Jan 5, 2004.
(Maybe in the future some other sources of information will be
covered also.)  For now, the DotGNU Informer appears irregularly,
whenever an issue is ready.  The DotGNU Informer is published at
http://dotgnu.info and via the address@hidden mailing list.

1. DotGNU Website Status

nb reports that as of Jan 5, 2003 he *still* cannot checkout,
or commit to, Savannah webcvs for DotGNU... the DotGNU website
therefore still remains unchanged.


2. DotGNU Portable.NET 0.6.2 released
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The instructions on dotgnu.org are outdated, use the following
commands instead:

  export CVS_RSH="ssh"
  cvs -z3 -d:ext:address@hidden:/cvsroot/dotgnu-pnet co .


4. Where to find the public irc logs

Since ajmitch moved house, the "irc logs" link on the DotGNU website
is broken; the logs are currently available (without proper index)
at URLs like

http://ajmitch.linuxworks.co.nz/dotgnu.log.05Jan2004

A few days of logs were unfortunately lost entirely.  Does anyone
have logs from between Christmas and January 2?  If yes, please
let nb know!

5. Gentoo ebuild bug report

<scandium> hm, someone already wrote a bug report because pnet-0.6.2
           doesn't compile for him *grumble* ;)
<ajmitch>  it didn't compile for me, either :)
<ajmitch>  of course my problem was lack of diskspace...

<ajmitch>  was down to 70MB free this morning on here
<scandium> hm, I got some compiler warnings that weren't there with
           0.6.0, but it compiled fine, also trying different CFLAGS
<scandium> the strange thing is, the compilation breaks with a "syntax
           error" for that guy

           instead of temp files then

6. Does DotGNU include software written by monkeys or other apes?

According to the Primate Programming FAQ

monkeys are good at testing, but not for writing software.  On the
other hand, great apes (hominids) "will not share source code and
can be very territorial when programming."  Since for the DotGNU
project, code quality and Free Software status are both important,
it will not be possible to include code which has been written by
monkeys or other apes.
