Hmm, just a Wild Guess here, but could this have something to do with
line endings?  They probably don't use Emacs, which retains the line
endings previous, and there were a few patches I integrated that
diffed out the entire file based on the change of line ending.

This seems to be a matter of personal preference.  For example, you
(and I) prefer the unified format, but the Emacs manual complains that
context diffs are easier than unified.
