Looking at it functionally, I think we are talking
about several different, and perhaps related things.

One: is personal data storage made accessable to the
net.  This is one of the things passport portends to
do.  This data can, of course, be made available by
the users own machine.server, except when they are not
one line.

Two: is a persistant public archival data pool
accessible to both interactive and component
webservices.  Reliability and perminancy must be
greater than any one service provider or company.  (A
version of this may provide special anonimity and
resistance to imposed censorship.) 

Three:  dynamic and commercial specialized data
services.  

The profile of the below graph is different for each. 
Are there other types we needs to address?
