After rebooting the system the error message I'm getting now is:
barossa: {1} ./benchmark_usb.py
Testing 2MB/sec... TX d'board A: Basic Tx
usb_control_msg failed: error sending control message: Input/output error
TX d'board B: <none>
RX d'board A: TV Rx
RX d'board B: DBS Rx
assertion "obi % 512 == 0" failed: file "usrp1_sink_base.cc", line 123,
function "virtual int usrp1_sink_base::work(int, gr_vector_const_void_star&,
gr_vector_void_star&)"
Abort (core dumped)
other applications such as usrp_wfm.py work fine.
