I tried it again, and it went to http://217.160.6.133/Asturies/GNU/gnu/parallel/ and then to http://ftp.gul.es/gnu/ftp.gnu.org/gnu/parallel/ I tried downloading from each of those three mirrors, and the files were identical to the ones from the primary site. I didn't realize that I could just run the sig through bash. I looked now, and I see the script at the start of the file. laptop37 ~/Downloads$ bash parallel-20140622.tar.bz2.sig gpg: Signature made Mon 23 Jun 2014 03:27:19 AM CEST using RSA key ID 88888888 gpg: Good signature from "Ole Tange <address@hidden>" gpg: aka "Ole Tange <address@hidden>" gpg: aka "[jpeg image of size 6001]" gpg: WARNING: This key is not certified with a trusted signature! gpg: There is no indication that the signature belongs to the owner. Primary key fingerprint: CDA0 1A42 08C4 F745 0610 7E7B D1AB 4516 8888 8888 nslookup ftpmirror.gnu.org gives 140.186.70.73 dl.savannah.gnu.org nslookup ftp.rediris.es gives 130.206.1.5 zeppo.rediris.es nslookup ftp.gul.es gives 163.117.156.54 nslookup pi.dk gives 188.138.2.24 I just ran "curl pi.dk/3/ | bash" several times from empty directories. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it hung running "curl -L http://ftpmirror.gnu.org/parallel/parallel-20140622.tar.bz2" and sometimes it failed with "The signature on parallel-20140622.tar.bz2 is wrong. This may indicate that a criminal has changed the code." I think that you are right that the problem is a bad mirror server. William |
