As far as I'm concerned it is.
System :
Intel Pentium
Linux 2.4.18
my own dist
Problem:
ftpd's man page states that the file 'ftpusers' is normally stored in
/etc.
It's aint there.
I used the defaults when installing inetutils-1.4.0.
PATH_FTPUSERS used (prefix)/etc to point to the ftpusers file.
(prefix) was set for /usr/local.
When trying to log in via ftp, ftpd looked in /usr/local/etc for the
ftpusers file.
Fix:
Either change the man page to state 'is in (prefix)/etc' instead of
'usually in /etc'.
or preferred:
put the ftpusers file in '/etc' period.
Better include 'ftpwelcome' also.
Wouldn't this make ftpd Filesystem Hierarchy System 2.2 compliant ?
I was trying to lock out 'root' and couldn't do so. Fat lot of good that
man page did in finding out what was wrong. It took well over an hour
before I read the Makefile and figured out what was happening.
I'll change the makefile for now myself. And go through the other
programs in inetutils when I get to them.
I just got inetutils-1.4.1 and didn't see anything about this in the
changelog file.
