This is with the latest trunk Emacs.
In *shell* buffer, when I type this (<TAB> means the TAB key):
% ls #<TAB>
the error "Wrong type arguemnt: wholenump, -1" is signaled.
With toggle-debug-on-error, the *Backtrace* is as below:
