latest build won't start, maybe because it can't find a font

Everitime I try to start up emacs.app as built from latest sources  
(or AquaEmacs nightly, which I suppose uses those sources) it will  
just go away again after bobbing a little in the dock. On the console  
it says:
No fonts match `-*-monaco-*-*-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-mac-roman'
I am not 100% sure what it means, but supposing that "mac-roman" is  
not a font specifier but an encoding this is weird, since I do have  
monaco 12 on my system (at least according to the font selector).
