not a bug, but you should make the colored text highlighting in C++ mode

From: root
Subject: not a bug, but you should make the colored text highlighting in C++ mode highlight escape thingers like "\n" in a string be a different color
Date: Mon, 22 Sep 2003 14:02:36 -0400

This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!!
Please write in English, because the Emacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.

In GNU Emacs 20.7.1 (i386-redhat-linux-gnu, X toolkit)
 of Thu Aug 24 2000 on porky.devel.redhat.com
configured using `configure --mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info
--prefix=/usr --libexecdir=/usr/lib --sharedstatedir=/var --with-gcc --with-pop
--with-x-toolkit i386-redhat-linux-gnu'

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

the newline thing "\n" in a string is the same color as the rest of the string.
I'm in C++ mode and the text highlighting works just fine but it would be nice
if you'd make the escape character "\" be a different color inside of the
quotations " ". This isn't a bug, but in VIM it makes it a different color.
