I cannot reproduce this; please tell exactly what you typed, and
please see if it happens in "emacs -q --no-site-file".
Also, is it possible that your etc/DOC file is out of sync with the
Emacs binary (i.e., that etc/DOC and the `emacs' executable are from
two different builds)?
