Only since 19.26 in 1994 (when I first had to turn off this annoying
behavior).  I might allow that's a "long time", but it's not a "very
long time" when you're talking about a package that's existed since
emacs 1.3.

Yes.  Thank you.  It should be mentioned in NEWS.

The stand-alone Info predates emacs 19.26 by several years.
